Comments: Focuses on African American culture in the U.S. (first of a two-part lesson.) Students examine the changing demographic and socioeconomic status of African Americans, and see how these data compare to those of other groups in our society. The lesson also helps to identify some of the root causes of group differences and suggests possible solutions to these disparities. Video inserts and guests include: the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, author Tamara Jacoby, and National Field Director Gary Flowers of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition.
